The goal of this class is to familiarize students with the aesthetic and ideological characteristics of Japanese visual arts. As a practical example, the anime phenomenon is analysed. The oral presentations and the final term-papers of the participants should be focused on aspects of anime works released in Japan

It is necessary to take both Japanese Popular Arts and Culture I (現代日本文化論 I) and Japanese Popular Arts and Culture Ⅱ(現代日本文化論 Ⅱ). 
Grading Method 2 small essays, each 10% x 2 =20%
oral presentation = 30%
term-paper = 50%
